Working in painting, photography, and installation, Spencer Finch is best known for making large-scale sculptural installations that filter or transform natural light or create synthetic light effects. In this site-specific installation, Finch attempts to recreate his impression of the sky at Derneburg at a specific moment, shifting the sunlight to the color of shade cast by a passing cloud. "Passing Cloud (Over Derneburg)" demonstrates Finch's mechanized attempt at capturing the ephemeral and temporal nature of the observed world.
