The German artist Tim Trantenroth looks at urban spaces for his motifs. In the series “War on Terror” (2005), Trantenroth painted scenes of destruction on varied foundations (canvas both stretched and unstretched, as well as paper), each devoid of people and focused on destruction and detritus of the surroundings. Car Bomb (2005) displays a mangled vehicle visually transformed by Trantenroth almost to abstraction. Presented alone within a gray field, the ripped and dismantled vehicle is constrained to a still and permanent condition.
