The Hungarian artist Dóra Maurer uses color to define margins and illusionistic volume. Mounted on wood, Quod Libet 39 (1999) resembles a malleable cloth, flag or map bent over itself. Maurer's varied practice includes film, photography and printmaking, all grounded with a concern for movement and systematic analysis. Using rule-based compositional logic, Maurer's paintings appear diagrammatic while holding a three-dimensional presence. Her more recent paintings titled Quod Libet (which translates to "as you like it") preceded Maurer's translation of the seminal art education book Interaction of Color by the German-born American artist Josef Albers to Hungarian.
