Isolation, suffering and resistance are present in Lida Abdul's video Dome (2005), in which a boy stands in the ruins of a mosque in Kabul, spinning silently round in circles, looking up through the roofless building at the blue sky above him. Encountered by Abdul by chance whilst walking through the warravaged city of Kabul, the boy's repetitive spinning indicates an attempt to overcome trauma by replacing reality with a soothing disorientation from both place and self.
