Early Anselm Kiefer
Selections from the Hall Collection and Kiefer Studio
September 21 - December 22, 2013
WILLIAMS COLLEGE MUSEUM OF ART

This fall the Williams College Museum of Art will present Early Anselm Kiefer: Selections from the Hall Collection and Kiefer Studio. Early Anselm Kiefer includes important and rarely seen artist books, woodcuts, watercolors, and small-scale oil paintings created between 1969 and 1982—drawn from the Hall Collection in addition to key books from the artist’s studio. This focused survey is being held alongside Anselm Kiefer, a long-term installation of sculpture and paintings presented by the Hall Art Foundation at MASS MoCA (Massachusetts Museum of Contemporary Art, North Adams) that opens to the public on 27 September. Early Anselm Kiefer provides an intimate and complementary context for the major installations for which the artist is best-known, concentrating on works created prior to his establishment on the international stage and introducing many of the themes and subjects that would become Kiefer’s signature modes of working.
